Technical Details

Architecture

• Cloudflare Workers: This page is rendered server-side (SSR) on Cloudflare's global edge network. Unlike traditional Node.js servers, it runs on V8 isolates, providing near-instant startup times and minimal latency by executing code in the data center closest to the user.
• Edge Caching: To prevent rate-limiting from upstream APIs and ensure sub-second page loads, the fully rendered HTML is cached at the edge for 15 minutes (Cache-Control: s-maxage=900). Subsequent requests are served directly from the CDN cache without invoking the Worker.
• Resiliency: The architecture is designed to fail gracefully. If external data sources are down or slow, the system handles timeouts via Promise.race and renders whatever data is available or cached.

Data Pipeline

• Parallel Execution: All data fetching happens concurrently using Promise.all. This includes multiple RSS feeds and JSON APIs, ensuring the total wait time is determined only by the slowest single request, capped at a strict 8-second timeout.
• News Aggregation: Fetches RSS/Atom feeds directly from MLB Trade Rumors and Hoops Rumors. The XML is parsed using lightweight regex patterns to avoid the overhead of heavy DOM parsers in the Worker environment.
• Live Data: Real-time scores, standings, and schedules are retrieved from ESPN's public APIs. Cross-referencing opponent records with live league standings happens on-the-fly during the render pass.
